First of all, I want to send my thoughts to all the warm and kind fellow hikers that I met on the trail between Abisko and Nikkaluokta, on my trip between the 23 of June and 3 of July 2023. The meetings and chats with all of You were so pleasant and rewarding. I hope the journey back home went well for all of You. You will remain in my heart and I wish You all the best in the future. May God be with You.
This blog post is related to a Swedish hymn titled the same as the headline of this post. The meaning behind the hymn is, how the nature and God’s creation praise the Lord, by their sounds and appearance. In the last verse We are demanded to take part in the praising, and sing: ”The Lord is Great.”
The origin of the hymn isn’t quite clear. But there is an American version, which was picked up in 1852 by Betty Ehrenborg-Posse, who is regarded as the founder of the Swedish Sunday school.
Memories from school became a travel companion on my pilgrimage
This hymn has now and then sounded in my head since my early school years. We used to sing this hymn at the morning prayer. And when I decided to do a pilgrimage along the Dag Hammarskjöld trail, it became a natural part of my daily spiritual activities. Below I have illustrated the four verses of the hymn with pictures taken on the trail.
I pray for all my fellow hikers. May God be with all the future pilgrims on the trail.
